Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with Fair Recycling

Our foundation’s name reflects our mission: Fair Recycling. From the very beginning, it was clear that fairness and equal opportunities had to be at the heart of our project. By improving working conditions, creating sustainable jobs and strengthening local expertise, we also generate lasting social impact and make a significant contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

For every refrigerator recycled, we destroy an average of up to 1 tonne of CO2 equivalents and prevent them from entering the atmosphere.

How we contribute to achieving the SDGs

By replacing old refrigerators containing CFCs and HFCs, we not only make an important contribution to environmental protection but also create lasting social value for local communities. Both have a positive impact on achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Developed as part of Agenda 2030, these global goals address the most pressing environmental, social and economic challenges of our time and were also co-developed and endorsed by Switzerland.

Our initiative ensures that employees have appropriate work and protective clothing and provides information on the safe handling of toxic substances.

GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

In many developing and emerging countries, waste management is often carried out under socially unacceptable and dangerous working conditions. We provide appropriate protective equipment and workwear, while raising awareness of the risks associated with handling hazardous substances.

Fair Recycling supports the training programme of the “iWrc - Inclusive Waste Recycling Consortium” in Brazil, which provides further training in the informal sector via WhatsApp.

QUALITY EDUCATION

Fair Recycling supports the training programme run by the Inclusive Waste Recycling Consortium (iWrc) in Brazil. This programme enables further training in the informal sector via WhatsApp. Annual training and professional development are an integral part of the corporate culture of our partner Inúdstria Fox.

At Industria Fox, women in the recycling sector have the same opportunities as men, with women accounting for around a third of the workforce – significantly higher than in Brazil's traditionally male-dominated recycling business.

GENDER EQUALITY

Equal opportunities are a core value of our project. While Brazil’s recycling industry remains largely male-dominated, women represent around one third of the workforce at our partner Indústria Fox.

A look at Brazil's densely populated favelas, characterised by improvised dwellings and narrow streets that defy the daily challenges of poverty and social inequality.
